PFT: 'It was the correct call,' MNF referee says

Philadelphia Eagles v Arizona CardinalsGetty Images

With the Eagles at 2-1 but feeling like a team that can?t get out of its way, offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg said Thursday that he hopes quarterback Mike Vick will do more to stay out of the way of defensive players.

?Maybe he needs to move,? Mornhinweg told the media.? ?About half of the time the quarterback needs to move.? It might be subtle or a slide.? It might be up and out, in a full scramble, front door or back door ? all these type of movements.?

Vick seemed to reach a new level two years ago because he was moving less.? Patient in the pocket, Vick waited for opportunities to develop.? This year, it seems like he?s simply waiting to get blasted by a blitzing linebacker.

The hits Vick has taken, coupled with his alarming turnover rate, has prompted calls for the team to spend more time running the ball, especially with LeSean McCoy on the roster.? Mornhinweg doesn?t sound sold on that approach.

?We go after people now,? Mornhinweg said regarding the possibility of making the running game a priority.? ?Look, I tell the players that we?re going to be aggressive.? Again, you can be aggressive in the running game or the pass, but we?re going to be aggressive.? I want them to be aggressive and want them to play without the fear of making a mistake. If you make a mistake, you find the solution and then you correct it fast.? Once you get that thing motoring pretty good, and I think we are closer than it appears, then you?re in pretty good shape both run and pass.

?Normally, many of your runs come in the second half, whether you are close, you are even, or you are up, and with us most of the time.? Not all of the time, but most of time.? Philosophically, I don?t care as much about balance in any particular game.? If we have to run the ball 50 times to win the game, that?s what we?ll do.? If we need to pass the ball 50 times in any particular game, that?s what we?ll do.? Now, you take the whole season and you?d rather be somewhere around 60-40ish, usually a little higher than 60ish maybe 60-65 percent pass.?

It sounds good in theory, but every pass play lately has had Eagles fans holding their breath for the next hit on Mike Vick.? Sooner or later, he?ll absorb a hit that keeps him from continuing.

Bank of England urges banks to raise capital from markets

LONDON (Reuters) - British banks should take advantage of any lull in euro zone turmoil to tap markets for fresh capital to bolster their defences, the Bank of England's Financial Policy Committee said on Thursday.

The minutes of the FPC's September 14 meeting add urgency to its existing call for banks to raise capital, saying banks should tap outside investors for capital instead of simply relying on curbing bonuses and keeping back profits.

"Recent improvements in market conditions should help in that respect, with the options including debt conversion and the issuance of suitable contingent capital instruments as well as conventional equity," it continued.

Britain's relatively well-capitalised banking sector is confident of meeting targets under the Basel III rules brought in since the 2008 financial crisis, but they also face risks ranging from legal cases around the Libor interest rate fixing scandal to a wobbling domestic economy and property sector.

Analysts said investors were still leery of banks, noting the difficulties some European banks had in tapping markets. There has also been mixed investor appetite for Royal Bank of Scotland's forced sale of insurance unit Direct Line.

"The senior management of banks are also not incentivised to raise new equity capital. It would impinge on the wealth prospects of senior management due to dilution, and the new equity would probably be raised at a significant discount," said Vivek Raja, a banks analyst at Oriel Securities.

The British Bankers' Association had no immediate comment.

The committee said banks had made only "limited progress" in building up their capital cushions, partly because profits were being hit by the weak economy, payouts for mis-selling and other conduct issues.

HSBC, Lloyds, Barclays, Royal Bank of Scotland and Santander's UK arm will end up paying the bulk of an estimated 10 billion pounds in compensation for mis-selling loan insurance.

"The committee judged that these factors were likely to provide a continuing drag on banks' earnings, diminishing their ability to build capital internally," the FPC said.

The FPC said it would consider giving banks more precise individual guidance on how much capital to raise at its next meeting.

EURO ZONE EXPOSURE

British banks still had exposures to the most vulnerable euro zone countries that totalled 70 percent of their core regulatory risk buffer, and should use calmer market conditions to sell this type of risky asset, the FPC said.

The FPC met just after the European Central Bank had appeared to agree to purchase debt from embattled euro zone countries such as Italy and Spain, helping to bring down high interest rates.

But since then the reluctance of Spain's government to formally ask for a bailout has put the project on hold, causing euro zone peripheral bond yields to climb back up above critical levels.

The 11-member FPC held its first meeting in June last year, and issues guidelines to tackle broad threats to the stability of the British financial system, rather than problems specific to one firm. From next year, it will have statutory powers and sit at the top of Britain's financial regulatory structure.

However, the Bank is keen to balance a safe banking system against the need to ensure that it lends to businesses and households, as it says a lack of lending is one thing that has held back Britain's recovery from the 2008-09 financial crisis.

The minutes of September's FPC meeting said policymakers had a "range of views" about the existence and strength of any trade-off between tighter regulation and greater UK lending.

One FPC member, former banker Robert Jenkins, blasted banks this week for spreading "myths" such as that tougher rules make it harder for lenders to supply credit to businesses.

The FPC recommended last year that banks publish their leverage ratios - a benchmark of how stretched their balance sheets are - from 2013, two years earlier than under the Basel III global accord.

In its minutes, the policymakers emphasised that earlier disclosure did not mean that UK banks also have to comply early with the actual leverage ratio cap set out in Basel III as well.

Hundreds of Syrian refugees riot in Jordanian camp

AMMAN/GENEVA (Reuters) - Hundreds of Syrian refugees demanding help to return home from a camp in northern Jordan rioted and clashed with security forces on Monday night, Jordanian and United Nations officials said.

Six members of the security forces were wounded by stones thrown by protesters, a spokesman for the Jordanian forces said on Tuesday, while Syrian activists at the Zaatari camp said that several refugees were injured.

Zaatari contains about 30,000 refugees and has been the scene of frequent protests about conditions at the camp.

"There was a demonstration that got out of hand," Sybella Wilkes, spokeswoman for the U.N. refugee agency, said in Geneva.

Wilkes said that 300 refugees were believed to have been involved in the protest and that they wanted to return to Syria to help their families, despite worsening violence in the country.

"Jordanian authorities said they were very reluctant to take people to the border, where they have seen a lot of insecurity. They didn't want to take people into harm's way," Wilkes added.

One refugee at the camp, speaking on Skype, said that the violence broke out after security forces detained four people. Camp residents gathered and started hurling stones at the security forces, who responded by throwing stones back at them and firing tear gas, the refugee said.

The spokesman for the security forces said that seven people were arrested for inciting violence but did not comment on how the riot was handled.

Social Media + Holidays = STRESS! 7 Ways To Cope? | The Online ...

Social media + Holiday = Stress. How to Cope.

Onetangi Beach ? 2.4km of golden white sands on Waiheke Island, New Zealand

It?s Monday and I?m recovering from a cracking weekend away on Waiheke Island with one of my besties.

You see, my bestie ? Sharon Stephenson ? is a travel writer who was commissioned to do a piece on Waiheke Island, a gorgeous sub-tropical island north-east of Auckland, New Zealand. As it turns out, I also own a holiday rental?there (?What a coincidence!? she says in mock surprise).?Hence my?rubber arm got twisted and I stumbled along for the ride. Our itinerary included lots of wine tasting (in other words, ?drinking?), lots of eating, and lots of laughing till the cows came home. Plus I got free PR for my holiday rental too!

Social media + Holiday = Stress. How to Cope.

While being a poser, my Tweets and posts were still going out. Awesome!

But being my first weekend away since starting this journey, I?ve discovered that leaving my business (my baby) behind can be really stressful.

Last week, I was in panic station as I rushed to have everything ready before I left. This included fixing issues with my email subscription system (more about this in another post), writing and delivering my blog post, topping up my Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn accounts to cover three days away, as well as organising loads of different things for my holiday rental. I knew the weekend would leave no time but to eat, drink, play and sleep (yes it was hard work!). Plus WIFI access was few and far between.

Which got me thinking? How would I cope on a longer holiday? So here?s what I reckon:

1. Only go places with internet access.

Yep, sad but true. The unbeaten track and untouched islands are fabulous holiday spots, but as an online marketer you need good, reliable internet access wherever you go. For me, it?s goodbye to?Koh Kood?- one of my favourite remote islands.

2. Back up your laptop.

In my haste, I forgot to back up my laptop before this trip ? an omission that could?ve been disastrous if my laptop got stolen, dropped in the sea, or got damaged in some other way. Oh the thought of it gives me the heebie jeebies!

But when I do remember to back up, I use my Mac?s built-in Time Machine system and a 60Gb external hard drive. I reckon if you?re going away for long periods you should always take your back-up drive with you, and store it separately from your laptop ? NOT in your laptop bag.

3. Be WIFI savvy.

With the internet being a key part of your business, scope out the local WIFI spots ahead of time to avoid last-minute panic while away. Also check out this great article about security when on a public WIFI.

4. Get a local SIM card.

Mobile roaming prices are ridiculously expensive so the next time you?re overseas, buy a local SIM card for your smartphone.

To get internet access, simply hook your iPhone (with local SIM card) to your?iPhone personal hotspot, which you?ll find in your phone ?Settings?.?With Android phones?you can download an app that will turn your phone into an internet hotspot.

It may mean losing access to your standard SIM card for a while, but a little swapping and changing when required can save you a whole lot of dosh in the long run!

5. Use an online document sharing tool or two.Social media + Holiday = Stress. How to cope...

I?m currently using?Google Drive (ex Google Docs) to save all my important files and documents online ? which means I can access them from pretty much anywhere with internet access; at an internet cafe, or on a friend?s computer for instance.

Everyone?s also been raving about Evernote?lately. Evernote is a software that makes it easy to take notes and manage your files.?Apparently once you?ve stored the info on your computer or phone using Evernote, you don?t even need internet to access it. And it synchs with all your hardware too.

Evernote?s next on my list of tools to check out. You should check it out too! Check out Evernote

6. Get a back-up computer.

A friend of mine was recently in Bolivia when his laptop died on him. In Bolivia, good technicians and late-model computers are hard to come by so he was left without a computer for weeks.

Because my laptop is the hub of my business, not having one would feel like having my right arm chopped off. So I?ve got my eye on an iPad as it?s light and easy to carry, and I can use it as back-up in case anything happened to my laptop. Do you have a back-up computer?

7. Chill?it?s not the end of the world.Social media + Holiday = Stress. How to Cope.

Starting an online business is so full on I?d become a bit of a stress bunny?

But what I?ve come to realise is that missing a (self-imposed) deadline or losing a few Twitter followers isn?t the end of the world.?Holidays are supposed to be fun, and as long as I top up my social media, connect with others every couple of days (which I do enjoy), or perhaps write a blog post once a week, I?m probably doing better than most people.

So if you?re a stress bunny like me, why not take a deep breath and chill a little? I?m already finding life a little easier with that tiny change of mindset.

So what do you think??How do you keep your business running while on holiday? I?d love to hear your thoughts.

Gazprom Energy Tops Customer Satisfaction ... - LNG World News

Gazprom Energy Tops Customer Satisfaction Rankings for Large Gas Users

Gazprom Energy reached the top of the Datamonitor?s Energy Buyer Customer Satisfaction Survey, which is compiled Large Gas Users, for the first time.

Gazprom Energy, one of the ?granddaughters? of Gazprom Export and a 100% subsidiary of Gazprom Marketing and Trading, keeps ?dislodging? competitors, as Datamonitor chose to phrase it.

In 2006, Gazprom Energy acquired Pennine Natural Gas Limited to start direct sales to commercial and industrial customers in UK. Soon it has gone on to become the second largest supplier in terms of volume, listing some of the largest gas consumers in the UK as its customers. Now it has culminated its rise with topping the customer satisfaction rating.

Significantly, Gazprom Energy?s market share has grown rapidly, now accounting for more than 14% of gas volume sold to B2B customers.

Datamonitor noted that ?the independent suppliers in the energy market are performing extremely well in terms of growing market share and maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction.?

LandAirSea SilverCloud

The LandAirSea SilverCloud ($369 direct) is more expensive than most GPS tracking solutions, but it's for a reason: You get real-time tracking capability. In other words, instead of attaching the device to a car, waiting, and then retrieving it later, you can monitor the device in real time, using both 2D and 3D map views. Thanks to its robust social networking components, it's a good solution for freight companies, promotional vehicles, or any time you want vehicle tracking to be publicly visible. It could also be used for less-visible, potentially creepy purposes, such as for law enforcement, or by private investigators or a stalking spouse, as you can slip it in a bag and it doesn't need to be in a car.

Design and Website Setup
The LandAirSea SilverCloud ?is made entirely of matte black plastic, and is about the same size, weight, and shape as a radar detector. There are virtually no controls on the unit itself; the back edge contains a row of LED lights that indicate status, while a covered micro USB charger port sits on the right edge towards the back. The bottom panel contains a snap-off battery cover; inside is the lone power switch.

Since it's cloud-based, the SilverCloud can store unlimited GPS tracking data on a secure server. But you can share real-time location via a URL or a live embed code on a website?perfect for, say, all those gourmet food trucks dotting the landscape of major cities these days. LandAirSea sells a number of SilverCloud combo packs targeted for individual and fleet use, including things like waterproof carrying cases, extended batteries, and hardwire power kits for vehicles.

To access SilverCloud data online, the website requires activation and a login, which is easy enough to set up. You need to do this before you intend to use the device on the first trip.?The website looks sharp, and displays current speed, compass heading, elevation, the date and time, and the remaining battery life of the unit. You can also set it to show satellite image data, which is a nice touch.

LandAirSea SilverCloud

That said, I ran into some trouble initially with the SilverCloud. When I first brought the unit outside, it locked onto my location within a few minutes. I confirmed this by the three LED lights?one blue surrounded by two green?in the translucent display strip on the edge. However, I had plenty of trouble seeing real-time data after that point. I brought along a ThinkPad laptop and a Sprint MiFi 4G hotspot, so I could monitor what the SilverCloud was seeing during my trip (only when I pulled over, of course).

No matter what I did, including shutting the SilverCloud off and powering it up again, I couldn't get the website to show me any data past that initial lock-in point.?It wasn't a signal issue, as I had no problem browsing lots of websites in the same testing locations.?Whatever the problem on the trip itself, though, it turns out the SilverCloud was working properly the entire time, because all of the data was recorded, as the below screenshot shows.

LandAirSea SilverCloud

Features, Cost, and Conclusions
You can run activity reports that include the number of locations and stops, as well as vehicle speed and distance traveled. You can also run historical playback scenarios to watch where someone went. The site also lets you send real-time directions to drivers in the field, either via their phone or via text message, as well as configure an array of alerts for arrival and departure notifications and battery status via text or email. A live support option in a chat window lets you get help from the company quickly?if you need it, and there's even a companion iPhone app.

The most difficult thing to swallow about the SilverCloud, though, is the cost of its monthly service plans. LandAirSea provides three free months of service as part of the package. After that, a?plan that allows for one-minute location updates costs $29.99 per device per month. 10-second updates cost $39.99, 5-second updates are $49.99, and 3-second updates run $59.99 per month. That's a lot of money, given that the Garmin Garmin GTU 10 costs just $50 per year (about $5 a month) for 30-second updates.

Overall, the SilverCloud did its job properly, and is an easy recommendation if you have the means. Another alternative is the aforementioned Garmin GTU 10, which is smaller and costs less, but also has a finicky website and a complicated setup process. The LiveViewGPS Live Trac EZ is a less expensive option up front, but it only works in newer (1996+) cars and trucks, since it plugs directly into the ODB-II port underneath the dashboard, and it it carries its own hefty subscription fees. If you don't need real-time monitoring at all, the LandAirSea Tracking Key ?is a much less expensive option, since there are no monthly fees, but its self-contained USB-compatible design means you'll have to retrieve each device whenever you want to view tracking data.

Hack an iPod Nano Into Your Car's Dashboard [DIY]

Hack an iPod Nano Into Your Car's DashboardA lot of us use our iPods in the car, but Redditor hyeinkall took his iPod Nano to new heights with integrating it with the dashboard in his 2001 Honda Accord.

The project actually looks very simple: Hyeinkall just removed the small, unimportant digital clock in the car's dashboard and cut up the plastic frame so the iPod fit in place. He then added a dock connector for the iPod (which can then hook up to the car's stereo) and put the whole frame back. Now it's always accessible while in the car, and he can undock it when he gets home. Hit the link to see a full Imgur album with step-by-step pictures. And if you have a different car...well, you can integrate a Nano into that, too.

India wakes up to new Egypt, to invite Morsi

New Delhi, Sep 23 : India is planning to invite Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi and step up business ties with one of the Arab world's major powers, with which it has had long-standing ties, when a high-profile Indian business delegation heads to post-Mubarak Egypt next month.

More than a year after the so-called Arab Spring, India is also looking to explore new opportunities in post-Gaddafi Libya which is in the process of renovating its society and polity after a messy war last year.

With Egypt trying to reclaim its pre-eminent position in the Arab world, India signalled its desire to build bridges with the Muslim Brotherhood dispensation in Cairo when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh met Morsi briefly on the sidelines of the NAM summit in Tehran Aug 30.

Official sources told IANS that Manmohan Singh conveyed India's desire to build further the strong foundations of bilateral ties and explore new areas of cooperation.

The Manmohan-Morsi meeting took place barely days after the Egyptian president made his first overseas visit outside the Middle East to China. Beijing pledged a new $200 million credit and declared its resolve to tighten strategic partnership with Cairo.

India has taken note of the new regime's focus on Beijing as Morsi asserts himself to distinguish from Hosni Mubarak's pro-US tilt to craft a new Look East foreign policy which will focus on emerging Asian powers like India and China.

Against this backdrop, India is planning to invite the Egyptian president to India. Dates will be worked out soon, said the sources.

"As Egypt completes its transition towards democracy, we expect a substantial growth in our bilateral engagement," India's Ambassador to Egypt Navdeep Suri told IANS from Cairo.

"Leading figures in the new government have given clear indications of their desire to deepen Egypt's economic engagement, with India as part of their own Look East policy. We are pro-actively engaged with all key actors in government, trade and industry to facilitate this process," he said.

India's globally ambitious corporate sector has also smelt the coffee and is determined not to miss out on fresh opportunities emerging in Egypt, whose strategic location makes it a bridge between Africa, Asia and Europe.

An industry source told IANS that a high-profile delegation of CEOs of Indian companies, led by Atul Punj, will head to Egypt and Libya Oct 26 to discuss project proposals with their counterparts there.

The delegation will also comprise senior executives of corporate giants like the Essar Group, Sanmar Group and Apollo Group.

They are also expected to meet key ministers in Morsi's cabinet who are handling finance, petroleum and infrastructure portfolios.

Around 45 Indian companies have already invested over $2.5 billion in projects in Egypt. In fact, Indian companies have shown their confidence in the country's long term potential by staying put right through the post-revolution period.

"Fresh Indian projects have been launched since the Jan 25 revolution in sectors like petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, readymade garments and education. I expect these trends to strengthen with the return of political and economic stability," said Suri.

In a sign of the continuing resilience of India-Egypt economic ties, two-way trade last year grew by about 45 percent. India's exports grew by 35 percent despite the global economic downturn and the fluid situation in Egypt itself.

With Egypt speeding up its democratic transition, new areas of collaborations are emerging in areas of electoral technology and institution-building.

India and Egypt signed a pact to establish an institutional framework for their cooperation in the field of election management during the recent visit of Justice Hatem Bagato, secretary general of the Supreme Presidential Election Committee of Egypt.

Bronx zoo tiger attack: Man lives, big cat is forgiven

Survivors of tiger attacks often hold no animosity. As he lay injured from a tiger bite, entertainer Roy Horn whispered, 'Make sure no harm comes to Montecore.' Likewise, the tiger that mauled a man who jumped into his enclosure at the Bronx Zoo will not be euthanized.

The acknowledgement that the 26-year-old man was the culprit and the big cat was only acting out its nature isn?t uncommon in tiger attacks. In a long line of tiger attack cases, survivors tend to blame themselves or other factors, not the cats. Some victims even mourn when big cats are put down after an attack.

After the entertainer Roy Horn in 2003 nearly died after being bitten in the neck by Montecore, a tiger he had raised since it was six months old, he told assistants, ?Montecore is a great cat. Make sure no harm comes to Montecore.? (Mr. Horn performed with Montecore again in 2009 as part of a ?20/20? program.)

And a British woman who was mauled by a zoo tiger 30 years ago now raises money to help protect endangered cats around the world.

?I said I didn't want the tigress destroyed because I didn't think it was a vicious attack ? she was just being herself and didn't do anything out of character,? Janet Coghlan told the BBC in 2010. "But sadly a few months later, she was destroyed."

In one of the most notable recent tiger attacks, three men were attacked, and one of them killed, in 2007 by a female cat, Tatiana, at the San Francisco Zoo. Tatiana had bitten a zookeeper a year earlier. After the first incident, Tatiana was allowed to live because, as then-director Manuel Mollinedo said, ?The tiger was acting as a normal tiger does.?

Police shot and killed Tatiana after the tiger turned on them in the aftermath of the multiple maulings she inflicted on three men, one of whom later acknowledged taunting the animal.

"As a result of this investigation, [police believe] that the tiger may have been taunted/agitated by its eventual victims," wrote Police Inspector Valerie Matthews in an affidavit. Police believe that "this factor contributed to the tiger escaping from its enclosure and attacking its victims.?

Bashuta, an 11-year-old tiger and one of 10 on hand at the Bronx Zoo, watched Friday as a man named David Villalobos jumped into the enclosure from an elevated train that runs around the exhibit perimeters. The tiger attacked Mr. Villalobos, breaking his arm and a leg and biting him on his arms, legs, shoulders and back. Within 10 minutes, zoo keepers had shooed Bashuta off with the help of a fire extinguisher. Villalobos is in stable condition at a local hospital.

Zoo director Jim Breheny said the zoo would review its safety procedures, but was quick to absolve Bashuta from blame.

?We review everything, but we honestly think we provide a safe experience," Mr. Breheny told the Associated Press. "And this is just an extraordinary occurrence ? somebody was deliberately trying to endanger themselves."

?The tiger,? he added, ?did nothing wrong in this episode.?

New turtle tracking technique may aid efforts to save loggerhead

ScienceDaily (Sep. 20, 2012) ? The old adage "you are what you eat" is helping scientists better understand the threatened loggerhead turtle, which is the primary nester on Central Florida's beaches.

A study published September 21 in the journal PLoS ONE describes how scientists at the University of Central Florida used a technique that links chemical signatures of the turtles' diets and their watery environments to their migratory routes. They found the technique just as effective as expensive satellite tracking.

Little is known about the turtles, which spend 99 percent of their time in the water and return to the Archie Carr National Wildlife Refuge's beach to nest once every two to three years. The 13-mile-long beach is home to the second-largest population of loggerheads in the world and to about one of every four nests those turtles lay in the United States.

While other turtles' nests are increasing along the refuge's shores, the loggerheads' have been declining since 2000. The technique validated by the UCF scientists could help managers preserve the turtles' nesting grounds, migration routes and foraging grounds, all of which are critical to their survival.

"We need good information so policy makers can focus the limited conservation funds available where they can make the greatest impact," said Simona Ceriani, the UCF graduate student who led the study. "We all want our children to see these beautiful creatures and not just read about them in a book."

In addition to validating the tracking technique, the study found that the foraging area for the Florida turtles is much broader than previously thought.

"Think of these turtles as Florida tourists and snowbirds," Ceriani said. "They come and nest and then go back to lots of different places. And while we knew some went back north, we had no idea that this was a popular destination."

Based on her tracking, some turtles head for the water off the shores of Virginia and Delaware while others go to the Bahamas and the Gulf of Mexico. Some stay off the coast of Central Florida's beaches. Previously, scientists believed the majority of the loggerheads headed south.

While there are efforts to protect the turtle nests on the beaches, protecting their foraging grounds is equally important, biologists say. Many turtles die because they accidently get caught in fishing nets or encounter other dangers while out at sea.

The technique Ceriani validated should aid those efforts.

She took small blood samples from turtles at the refuge and completed a chemical analysis, which measured distinct markers known as stable isotopes. She also attached transmitters to the turtles so she could follow them using the more expensive but proven satellite tracking technique. The isotope approach proved to be equally useful, and it is much less expensive.

"By combining isotope research with satellite tracking technology, we are learning exciting information about loggerhead sea turtles," said Daniel R. Evans, a research specialist at the Sea Turtle Conservancy and co-author of the research paper. "This research helps scientists and conservation managers identify key feeding areas for loggerhead turtles and helps direct policy and regulations that protect sea turtles in these specific areas."

Ceriani said she will continue to research the migratory routes by adding more loggerheads to the study.

Ceriani earned her bachelor's degree at the University of Milan in Italy and was a research fellow at Florida Atlantic University before joining UCF's PhD program in conservation biology in 2007.

Others who contributed to the study include: UCF Biologist, John Weishampel, James D. Roth from the University of Manitoba in Canada and Llewellyn M. Ehrhart from the Marine Turtle Research Group at UCF.

Several grants from Florida's Sea Turtle Grants Program funded this study. The program gets is funding from the sale of the Florida Sea Turtle License Plate.

BRUSSELS (AP) ? Universal Music Group got approval Friday from American and European regulators to buy the famed British music company EMI, including the hugely lucrative Beatles catalogue. But the EU imposed stringent restrictions on the deal, forcing Universal to sell some of EMI's biggest acts, such as Cold Play and Pink Floyd.

Among EMI's assets that must go is Parlophone, home to those two British bands as well as Kylie Minogue and David Bowie. The Beatles, which is part of Parlophone, was exempted.

Universal will also have to sell off EMI's classical music divisions, its French and other local branches and labels that are home to Depeche Mode and The Ramones.

The U.S. Federal Trade Commission said that Universal and Emi's businesses were different enough from each other that the deal wasn't anti-competitive. It added that it didn't see the need to impose the same conditions on the deal as European regulator because of the differences between the U.S. and European markets.

EU Competition Commissioner Joaquin Almunia said that the fact that the companies involved trade in music made the case a particularly emotional one.

"This has been one of the most difficult discussions in my life as commissioner for competition because of ... the existence not only of an industry ? we are used to dealing with mergers between companies in very different sectors ? but the existence of a cultural dimension," said Almunia.

The FTC's decision was the last hurdle that Universal, which already represents Jay-Z, Nirvana and U2, had to clear before it can go ahead with its $1.9 billion purchase of EMI's recorded-music division, where talent is nurtured.

Universal's rivals, like Warner Music and small independent labels, have strongly protested the deal, saying it could squeeze out other players.

"This decision has finally put a freeze on Universal's ability to expand further," Helen Smith, executive chair of Impala, an industry group for independent labels, said in a statement Friday. "However, this decision nonetheless reinforces what is already a powerful duopoly."

The Universal deal is one part of the break-up of EMI. Regulators have already allowed a group led by Sony Corp. to buy EMI's music publishing arm for $2.2 billion.

If the Universal deal goes through, its average market share in European countries would be less than 40 percent after the asset sales, Almunia said.

Simon Dyson, the editor of Music & Copyright, an industry newsletter, said it appeared Universal's global market share would rise from around 29 percent to 34.5 percent ? but that because the company was already such a big player, the acquisition was unlikely to drastically change the industry.

"A digital music service can't launch without a company that's got one-third of the world's music, but it also can't launch without a company that has one-quarter," he said. "I genuinely don't see this as big a deal as some of the critics."

Still, if the U.S. also approves the deal, it will mean that the number of major record labels drops from four to three.

Almunia said that was a concern for European regulators, and they are trying to remedy it by insisting that Universal sell about two-thirds of the assets they're getting rid of to one buyer, in the hopes of creating another significant player in the music business, even if it won't be as large as the old EMI ? which was already the smallest of the four "majors."

He hinted that the EU wouldn't want to see either Warner or Sony be the buyer of that chunk, although he said that it was up to Universal to decide whom they wanted to sell to.

Universal welcomed the announcement, brushing off suggestions that it is being forced to sell so much of EMI that the deal might not make sense any more.

"We are delighted Universal Music will retain over two-thirds of EMI on a global basis, contributing to the accretive nature of the deal," the company said in a statement.

The company noted that it is acquiring several iconic artists ? and particularly the Beatles collection. Almunia said the British sensation's songs were exempted from the Parlophone sale because companies themselves propose asset sales in competition negotiations. The regulator can only then approve or deny the proposal; it does not make its own recommendations for what should be sold off.

Dyson agreed that, even with the asset sales, Universal did pretty well.

"They've got arguably the two biggest bands in history ? the Beatles and the Rolling Stones," he said. "That's nothing to sniff at."
