Last year Keaven Van Lom wrote a vivid educational piece in the Sierra Sun regarding the cruelty inflicted on animals in this ?sport.?

After reading Ms. Van Lom's article, it is hard to understand why many do not see the inhumanity that occurs during these events.

We have the upcoming Truckee Championship Pro Rodeo here every year for the purpose of giving back to the youth of our community. No one disputes the important need this purpose serves, but it does seem to be somewhat of a paradox that we are helping our young people within this particular forum ? entertainment that fosters and employs cruelty to animals.

You only have to be an observer at an event for a few minutes to realize this is occurring. One cannot wonder if there might be another type of event that would promote the same outcome without supporting inhumane treatment of animals?
